![]() I am a very explorative person and have tried my best to avoid guided travel as much as I can. While you will find a lot of the main attractions on their site, there are also some hidden gems for people like me who think they’ve seen it all. The concept is simple: Instead of professional tour agencies, local guides offer tours around their neighbourhoods. That’s why it was sitting on the number one spot on my todo list for quite some time already.Ībout a week before my latest trip to Bangkok, I got invited to try out TakeMeTour, a company that promises a different spin on something I usually dread: guided tours. I have been to Bangkok many times before, but for some reason, I’ve never made it to Chinatown. It is home to one of the city’s most iconic streets and a haven for street food lovers. Still, there were a few hotties on hand ready to pose for our cameras.Bangkok’s Chinatown, or Yaowarat, definitely earns its spot on the list of must-see places in Thailand’s capital. Sadly, there weren't too many models for us to ogle. Speaking of dirty pillows, we were hoping to see Chinatown Showoff packed to the brim with half-naked women. Anything that reminds us of women's dirty pillows gets an immediate thumbs-up from us. Our favorite RWD ride of the show was the orange Lexus SC 300 with the "Follow Me To Hooters" bumper sticker. As we mentioned a few paragraphs up, drifting is the big thing right now, so of course a few 240s, Corollas and other Japanese RWD cars were on display. Is VIP the next big thing? Only time will tell. We're seeing body kits, rims and turbos on these large sedans. It looks as if people are starting to turn to sedans - heavily influenced by Japan's VIP tuning scene - as a means to stand out in a crowd of sport compacts. This was the first event we attended where we saw hooked-up Camrys. Enough Honda talk, let's see what else was on hand at Chinatown Showoff. However, their numbers still pale to those of the almighty Civic. As these cars get more affordable for enthusiasts, we expect to see more and more of them at future car shows. Real Honda sports cars were on hand, too, in the form of crazy NSXs and sleek S2000s. Some of our favorites included a super-clean first-gen Integra (we never thought those cars could look so good) and a flared-out TSX. ![]() Rows upon rows of clean, JDM-inspired Hondas were on display. Of course, being the Honda-lovers we are, that was a good thing for us. Would we see Chinese Triads having a crazy scuffle in front of a restaurant? Would we see people doing some crazy kung-fu and backflips? Even better: would we finally get to meet Jack Burton and the green-eyed Chinese girl he rescued? If Hollywood was telling us the truth about Chinatown, we would get to do all of those and more! Hollywood movies would never lie to us, right?Ĭivics and Integras seemed to take up about 75 percent of the available floor space. As such, we were kind of excited to see some of the more famous sights of our fair city. Despite the fact that we've lived in the Los Angeles area for over a decade now, we never made the trip into Chinatown. So it's a win-win situation for all involved. After all, you all want to see some of the finest rides SoCal has to offer, and we want to have some kind of content to fill this editorial space. When we found out that Mainstream Productions was throwing its annual Chinatown Showoff (smack-dab in the middle of L.A.'s Chinatown), we figured that we would brave the one-way streets and crazy homeless people and let you know what went down that fine February afternoon. once in a while if some kind of cool event is going down there. We will, however, brave the chaos of downtown L.A. We usually have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the smoggy city limits of the City of Angels. Needless to say, we do our best to avoid Los Angeles.
